Iran officials and elites speak of imminent collapse of regime

Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader: “Though the enemy’s plans have been exposed, everyone must maintain their vigilance because the United States is a sinister and malicious enemy and may have intentions to deceive so that it could create tumult in 2018 but then for example, have schemes for 2019. We should not be heedless for even a moment. Everyone should be awake and alert.”
Ahmad Alamolhoda, Khamenei’s representative in Mashhad:“The sedition is channeled from the society and may be in the cultural and economic spheres and its origins come from the enemies that want to use this path to achieve their goals… The enemy is setting up a plot to instigate a sedition in 2019 through the use of personalities.”
Hassan Khomeini, grandson of the Islamic Republic’s founder:“We must find the rules for human behavior and the causes of stability and collapse in order to live according to them. Otherwise there is no guarantee that we (regime) will stay and others will go… We have to fear the day that positions collapse and roles change.”
Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, Iranian MP:“Although our influence and presence in the region is important, we should not forget that sometimes unnecessary costs can cripple us on Tehran’s streets… When the Soviet Union collapsed, it had 13,000 nuclear warheads, influence in more than 20 countries and a space station, but it was torn apart on Moscow streets, losing its security and territorial integrity.”
Mehdi Sheikh, Iran MP:“The people choose rulers and governments because they believe that their demands will be met but when a government or its officials refuse to be held accountable, it’s only natural that sooner or later, they will be put aside.”
Faezeh Hashemi, former MP and daughter of power cleric:“In my opinion, in substance, the collapse has already happened. It’s only the physical collapse that has not happened and I deem it very probable that it will happen.”
Mohsen Rezaie, former Commander of the Revolutionary Guards Corps:“A government could have a powerful appearance, but be falling apart from the inside.” Corruption and the government’s inefficiency is like bomb and will lead to an internal collapse if not dealt with seriously.
Mohammad Hojati, Kermanshah’s head of Friday prayers: “Some people imagine that the Islamic Republic is taking its last breath.”
Davoud Mohammadi, Iran MP“The pillars of the state should know that the enemy is not satisfied with anything less than collapse.”
