This file photo taken on August 20, 2016 shows USAs Jden Michael Tbory Cox (red) wrestling with Irans Alireza Mohammad Karimimachiani in their mens 86kg freestyle quarter-final match An Iranian wrestler says his managers told him to intentionally lose to a Russian competitor to avoid facing an Israeli wrestler in the next round. Ali Reza Karimi late Monday told the semi-official ISNA news agency that only one minute before the end of a Sunday round of the U-23 World Championship in Poland his coaches told him to throw the match to avoid facing an Israeli wrestler. He says: “In a moment, my whole world seemed to come to an end.” Israel and Iran are bitter adversaries and Iranian athletes traditionally refrain from competing against Israelis. Iran’s government usually rewards such behavior. Karimi says he was beating Russian Alikhan Zhabrailov when coaches told him to lose. Iran’s sport ministry in a statement praised Karimi for supporting “human values.”

An Iranian navy frigate passes through the Suez Canal in 2011  Iran's new naval commander vowed to send a warship to the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, a move that could raise concerns in Washington. Rear Adm. Hossein Khanzadi said he plans to deploy vessels to areas outside the Middle East, and that the warships will visit Latin America, NBC News reported Thursday. Iran's military plans to 'wave the flag of our country in the Gulf of Mexico,' Khanzadi said. 'Our fleet of warships will be sent to the Atlantic Ocean in the near future and will visit one of the friendly states in South America and the Gulf of Mexico,' he said, according to Iran's Fars news agency. 'The appearance of our vessels in the Mediterranean and  Suez Canal  shocked the world and the U.S. also made comments on it,' the Iranian commander added. Plans to send ships close to the United States are not new. In 2014, Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayyari said

Iran: Where the regime opposes women’s rights

Image
woman in iran with women should have same rights as men on her hands Every year, the day November 25 comes as a grim reminder that we have a long way to go for achieving gender parity. There are still many countries in the world where women cannot fully exercise the right to shape their own destiny. Violence against women is another detestable vestige of the mostly patriarchal societies inherited by our generation. It may seem that we have come a long way since the Dark Ages, but there are still some countries in the world that have made little progress in according equal rights to women and men. There is even a country where misogyny is the order of the day and where women have no legal rights. It may come as a shock to many, but Iran continues to run in this way. The Iranian regime may keep up pretences in public on issues related to women’s rights, but in practice women remain second class citizens in that country.       The violence led to chatter on social ne

MARYAM RAJAVI’S URGENT APPEAL TO THE RESIDENTS AND YOUTHS OF WESTERN IRAN TO SAVE VICTIMS OF EARTHQUAKE

Image
With deepest sympathies to my fellow compatriots stricken by earthquake in western Iran, particularly in Qasr-e Shirin and Sar-e Pol-e Zahab, I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. In these difficult moments when all the people of Iran are anxious and concerned about the lives of those stuck under the rubbles, what adds to the public’s distress is the clerical regime’s criminal record in such natural disasters of dragging its feet and dodging its responsibility in saving the lives of people.  This is all the more reason for our compatriots, particularly the courageous youths, who reside in western Iran to rush to the aid of people in the quake-stricken areas and help those trapped under the wreckage.  Just as opposed to the practices of the clerical regime, now is the time to show solidarity. Assisting and saving the victims of the earthquake is a sacred national duty.  Our prayers are for the rescue of the quake

Political prisoner and labor activist, Mahmoud Salehi Iran, November 13, 2017  - Iran regime judiciary and security authorities have rejected the transfer of political prisoner and labor activist Mahmoud Salehi to receive proper medical care on his own expense at a hospital outside prison. Doctors have insisted that this labor activist should be transferred to a more accessible hospital soon due to acute cardiac, kidney and diabetes problems. According to state-run ILNA news agency, quoting Mr. Salehi's family, his doctor recommended that this labor activist should be transferred to a hospital in Tehran, Tabriz, or Orumiyeh for continued treatment of his heart. He was first transferred to the prison infirmary and then to the so-called Imam Khomeini hospital (the 1000-bed hospital in Tehran) on November 12 due to exacerbation of his heart disease, and has since been admitted to the intensive care unit.   Mahmoud Salehi's family expressed grave concerns over h

'The Supreme National Security Council passed a bill that prevented radio and television from broadcasting depositors' voices through the national media ... after failing to broadcast  my interviews  on this issue twice, I followed up on the matter and I was told that the Supreme National Security Council has allowed radio and television in a resolution to prevent broadcasting of depositors' voices,' said Vaghfchi, a parliamentarian, who added that the protests of the plundered people 'are among the country's super-challenges. 10 percent of Iranians are involved in the financial institutions problem.'(ILNA state news a

Iran Resistance welcomes the new sanctions against IRGC commanders, affiliates

Image
US Treasury expands sanctions to 40 IRGC persons, organizations The Iranian Resistance welcomes sanctions by the US Treasury Department against a number of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) commanders and affiliates, engaged in suppressing and plundering the Iranian people as well as export of terrorism and proliferation of ballistic missiles. The Iranian Resistance views this as a necessary step in dealing with the clerical regime’s suppressive, belligerent, and terrorist policies and proliferation of ballistic missiles that endanger the peace and tranquility of the region. These sanctions should be quickly extended to all the individuals, entities, institutions, and companies affiliated or dealing with the IRGC, as well as to the IRGC’s foreign mercenaries. It is even more imperative that sanctions be imposed on IRGC commanders stationed in 31 provinces throughout Iran, who are responsible for suppressing the population.   Implementing the law passed by the US Co

Iranian Resistance calls for the end to Australian mistreatment of refugees

National Council of Resistance of Iran Iranian Resistance strongly condemns the shocking and disgusting behaviour toward asylum seekers who have been forcibly transferred from Australia to the remote island of Manos in Papua New Guinea, and are de facto being held in detention there, and condemned it as a flagrant violation of the asylum holy principle and other conventions and international treaties. Reiterating that the Australian government is responsible for the safety and security of these asylum seekers, Iranian Resistance calls for active intervention of parliament, political parties and organizations advocating refugee rights in Australia to end this human tragedy, and urges them to help these asylum seekers, especially the Iranian asylum seekers, and not allow them to suffer more pain while they have fled from the hell created by the mullahs’ regime.  The Iranian Resistance also calls for the UN Secretary-General and High Commissioner for Refugees to address this
