Iran: Countering the sanctions through negotiations or out of peoples’ pockets?

Image
Iranian regime officials are concerned over how to compensate for the lack of foreign currency.  While international sanctions against the regime ruling Iran increase and every venue for exporting oil comes to a close, the ruling theocracy in Iran is going into a panic mode. Petrodollars, in addition to covering Iran’s hegemonistic ambitions and its export of fundamentalism throughout the Middle East, also provided for part of the government’s budget. Now that the U.S.’ zero-export-policy is firmly implemented, Iranian regime officials are concerned over how to compensate for the lack of foreign currency. This prevailing issue looms large over the already hot internal debates between Iran’s opposing factions inside the ruling elite weighing the right approach towards the international community. In response to the new no-waiver policy for Iran’s oil exports, the mullahs’ Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani claim Iran will sell as much oil as it wa...

Iran’s regime deeply concerned about sanctions, FATF

Image
Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei   On Wednesday, the price of the U.S. dollar soared to 136,500 rials in the currency markets of Tehran, once again raising concerns about the regime’s destructive economic policies and unbridled corruption. According to the regime’s economic experts, the launching of a new round of talks by the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force ( FATF ) and the possibility of re-designating the Iranian regime in this international entity’s blacklist, along with the limbo status of FATF resolutions in the regime’s Expediency Council, are among the reasons behind this price hike. The  Expediency Council  decided to halt all evaluations of FATF resolutions and Iranian regime Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif failed to preserve the 2015 nuclear deal during his visit to Munich. As a result, Bahram Ghassemi, spokesperson for the regime’s Foreign Ministry, desperately called on the European Union to understand the regime’s status quo....

Economic/political impact of new US sanctions on Iran

US economic sanctions against Iran   A significant portion of the sanctions imposed against the Iranian regime following the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal will become active after 90 days and others after 180 days. The new U.S. Treasury sanctions, however, go online immediately. The economic impact of these sanctions can be witnessed in a rush to the exit door by numerous foreign companies involved in business with Iran. Many foreign companies one after another are currently pulling out of Iran and/or completely ending their contracts with Tehran. “Eight large European firms are determined to exit Iran,” according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, affiliated to the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guards Quds Force. There are numerous reports in the media of large, multinational European companies exiting Iran. This slate includes Total, Reliance, Eni, Siemens, Airbus, Maersk, Allianz and…, proving the United States’ influence to neutralize Euro...

ANALYSIS: IRGC bypass sanctions through Rouhani's 'smile diplomacy'

Image
Public opinion sees a ‘smile diplomacy’ from president Rouhani, which is appropriate to divert attention from the quagmire his regime is stuck in . (AFP)  This week marks the beginning of Hassan Rouhani’s second presidential term, which is vital for the existence of the ruling theocracy in Iran. In his inauguration speech, Rouhani described his plans to have high level relationships with world. However after the speech, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei called for standing against America. At first glance, there seems to be a significant conflict of priority, but in reality this is just a political deception directed by these two clerics. On the face of it, president Rouhani claims that he is pursuing a detente policy with US and Arab countries. However, in reality, his government allocates billions of dollars, which was gained from the nuclear deal, towards the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its ballistic missile program development. Rohani’s actions reminds on...
