Iran: Countering the sanctions through negotiations or out of peoples’ pockets?

Image
Iranian regime officials are concerned over how to compensate for the lack of foreign currency.  While international sanctions against the regime ruling Iran increase and every venue for exporting oil comes to a close, the ruling theocracy in Iran is going into a panic mode. Petrodollars, in addition to covering Iran’s hegemonistic ambitions and its export of fundamentalism throughout the Middle East, also provided for part of the government’s budget. Now that the U.S.’ zero-export-policy is firmly implemented, Iranian regime officials are concerned over how to compensate for the lack of foreign currency. This prevailing issue looms large over the already hot internal debates between Iran’s opposing factions inside the ruling elite weighing the right approach towards the international community. In response to the new no-waiver policy for Iran’s oil exports, the mullahs’ Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani claim Iran will sell as much oil as it wa...

Iran: Regime officials voicing more concern over IRGC blacklisting

Image
Meeting between Iran FM Zarif and senior IRGC commanders  Mohammad Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister of the regime ruling Iran, staged a propaganda meeting with members of the Revolutionary Guards ( IRGC ) senior command, including IRGC chief Mohammad Ali Jafari and Quds Force chief Qasem Soleimani. “The Foreign Minister and a number of his deputies met with the senior IRGC command. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps has played a major role in maintaining the country’s security, Zarif said,” according to a report aired by the regime’s state TV. In this meeting, Jafari resorted to remarks aimed at saving face. “U.S. forces in the region cannot carry out any military actions against [Iran]. However, if they do take measures, they will face an immediate, serious and firm response from our side,” he said. On the other hand, the  IRGC blacklisting  as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization” has resulted in disagreements and feuds among the regime’s various factions. ...

Iranian officials offer empty promises for the Persian New Year

Image
Iranian regime president Hassan Rouhani  In his Persian New Year speech on March 1, Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei described economic difficulties as the most important and imminent of all and said: “The economy is the country’s imminent and most serious problem with the highest priority.” Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, on the other hand, while recognizing the economic crisis, ridiculously blamed problems from past decades as the root of the current fiasco. Fearing the growing popular discontent and misery and in an attempt to save face and pump hope and enthusiasm into their desperate bases, Iranian officials continued their quest of empty promises and blaming foreign forces and their opponents in the ruling elite. On March 2, Iranian state-run television quoted Khamenei as saying: “While referring to senior governmental officials’ reports about the ongoing process of coming up with solutions to counter the sanctions, the Islamic Revolution Supreme Leader...

Iran’s deepening economic crisis triggers blame game among officials

Image
Iran’s deepening economic crisis A multi-dimensional economic crisis has paralyzed the Iranian regime. While the sanctions’ noose has tightened around the mullahs’ neck, the European mechanism has still yielded nothing of value to compensate for the U.S. sanctions due to the Iranian regime’s unwillingness to pass the FATF anti-money-laundering bills into law. Just a few days ago it was revealed that a deficit of about hundred thousand billion tomans has been hidden among other items in the budget bill in order to present a healthier face for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Tehran’s Friday prayer Imam Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi Fard described the Iranian government’s budget bill a failed attempt and said: “Let’s look at how many steps have been taken to decrease the country’s dependence on oil income in the budget bill that is about to pass. How many steps have been taken to decrease the amount of energy dependence and management of consumption?” Referring to the impact of inte...

Iranian Diplomat Chats Terror Plan with Tehran Officials

Image
Asodallah Asadi – Paris bomb plot. European intelligence services have evidence that Asadollah Asadis, an Iranian official under diplomatic cover, was involved in last year’s plot to bomb a rally outside Paris. The  evidence  against Asadollah Asadis comes from his contacts with the regime officials as recorded chats, that were collected by European intelligence services.  “According to the western official, the intercepts provide strong evidence of Mr. Asadi’s involvement in the foiled plot to bomb the Paris gathering called ‘Free Iran 2018 / The Alternative’ rally.” European security officials intercepted communications that suggest that under diplomatic cover, Asadollah Asadi was not only involved in the terror plan. Asadi also coordinated the plot’s efforts with colleagues back in Iran. The question is who was chatting with Asadollah Asadi in Iran? Asadollah Asadi, currently in detention in Belgium, provided a Belgian-Iranian couple with 500 grams of ...

The Iranian regime's futile war against the internet

Image
Iranian regime officials admit their defeat in censuring internet services On January 21 st , Iranian regime president Hassan Rouhani admitted to Tehran’s failure in filtering the cyberspace.  He did not even get close to criticizing the filtering efforts in their merits. He just said that they were not successful: "Well, we were unsuccessful in some of our efforts in recent years," he said. "We thought it is under our control. We thought it would be filtered if we just ordered so…. What should we do with VPNs?" Virtual private networks (VPN) are tools that allow internet users to circumvent the censorship of internet services and also prevent surveillance and monitoring of online activities. VPN services are especially popular in Iran, where the ruling regime is trying to impose heavy restrictions on access to foreign media and social networks. Rouhani was not the only official speaking of the regime's efforts against free flow of information in cybe...

Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader:  “Though the enemy’s plans have been exposed, everyone must maintain their vigilance because the United States is a sinister and malicious enemy and may have intentions to deceive so that it could create tumult in 2018 but then for example, have schemes for 2019. We should not be heedless for even a moment. Everyone should be awake and alert.” Ahmad  Alamolhoda , Khamenei’s representative in Mashhad: “The sedition is channeled from the society and may be in the cultural and economic spheres and its origins come from the enemies that want to use this path to achieve their goals… The enemy is setting up a plot to instigate a sedition in 2019 through the use of personalities.” Related Posts Who was Iran’s Shahroudi?  DECEMBER 26, 2018 Merry Christmas  DECEMBER 25, 2018 Iran’s Facts and Fiction  DECEMBER 24, 2018   Hassan  Khomeini , grandson of the Islamic Re...
