An investigation into a dossier of crimes committed by the Iranian dictators has been called for, as a result of a statement issued by Amnesty International and published by the United Nations General Assembly. According to the statement, “Between late July and September 1988, the Iranian authorities forcibly disappeared and extrajudicially  executed thousands of prisoners  for their political opinions and dumped their bodies in unmarked individual and mass graves… Since then, the authorities have tormented the relatives by refusing to tell them when, how and why their loved ones were killed and by keeping their remains hidden. To reinforce secrecy, they have also destroyed mass grave sites and forbidden commemorations.” It is believed that over 30,000 political prisoners were killed — most of them members and supporters of the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran ( PMOI/MEK ). Amnesty International has published a  200-page comprehensive report  on the massacre of political prisoners in Iran, 30 years after it actually took place. Its main focus is the dark days of 1988 massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in Iran. Had the 1988 massacre been given enough international attention it deserved back then, Iranian people would not have faced unbridle human rights abuses in the years that followed. Impunity for crimes in those days, embolden the regime over the years to the extent that it is leveling the graves of the same victims all over Iran. “The UN establishes an independent, impartial and effective international mechanism to help bring those responsible for these abhorrent crimes to justice,” the “Blood soaked” history of 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran will be put to rest”, the report concludes. The human rights watchdog also says that these are crimes against humanity and the perpetrators should be hauled before the interna...

The family members all currently live in Iran, and all put their names to the letter, a potentially dangerous move.
