A large number of retired steel mill workers rallied in Isfahan, central Iran, protesting not receiving their insurance pensions and New Year bonuses from March 2018. Protests by Iranian teachers and retired government workers in front of the parliament On Sunday, a large crowd of Iranian teachers, educators and retired public sector workers gathered in front of the Majlis (parliament) to protest against the regime’s incompetency and neglect in responding to their most basic demands. The protests are taking place while the Majlis is discussing the budget for the next Persian year (starting March 21), which will also include the salaries of public sector workers. Protests by the teachers of Isfahan In the final week of December, the teachers of Isfahan held demonstrations in front of the offices of the education ministry in protest to their deteriorating working conditions. In the second day of the demonstrations, Iranian security forces  attacked the teachers with batons and pepper spray  to disperse them and to prevent the protests from continuing. The teachers were demanding the release of their imprisoned colleagues and improvements to their working conditions, including an increase in wages. Like many other segments of the country’s population, Iran’s teachers are faced with increasingly difficult economic conditions which stem from the corrupt policies adopted by the ruling regime. After four decades of unfulfilled promises by Iranian officials, the teachers see demonstrations and strikes as the only way they can achieve their goals. Security forces attack peaceful Isfahan teachers’ gathering, detain dozens

Security forces attacked a peaceful teachers’ gathering today in the central city of Isfahan with tear gas and pepper spray. Reports on social media indicate that as many as 40 to 50 teachers were detained in the gathering, though the figures are still not exact.    From the very beginning of the gathering outside the city’s Education Department, security forces and riot police were dispatched to the area and shot tear gas into the peaceful teachers’ gathering. Students of Amirkabir University of Technology in Tehran hold a massive gathering  A large number of students at Tehran’s Amirkabir University of Technology held a rally on Tuesday morning in solidarity with protesting and jailed workers, and students and teachers who are currently held behind bars. The students, forming a long chain, were holding a variety of signs and chanting slogans: “Cannons, tanks, guns, they are no longer effective” “Workers, students, unite, unite” “Jailed workers, students & teachers must be released” “Victory is near. Iranian teachers in   numerous   cities began the second day of their nationwide strike On Wednesday, Iranian teachers in numerous cities began the second continuous day of their nationwide strike. The strikes began yesterday in protest to the deteriorating living conditions, suppression of teachers, high inflation rates and declining purchasing power of Iranian consumers. The teachers are also demanding that the regime stops discrimination against working and retired teachers. The Iranian regime has arrested and incarcerated several teachers for standing up to their rights. The strike follows several similar strikes by teachers in the past months and is happening against the backdrop of nationwide protests and strikes by different classes of the Iranian society that have been ongoing since the beginning of the year.
